The forward will turn out for the Pirates against the Kempsey Cannonballs after an extended hiatus from the game.

Geary has been out of the team for three weeks after taking on another formidable opponent, marriage. The now-married man took the leap with wife Sharni.

The newlyweds have since spent recent weeks in Thailand for their honeymoon.

It will be the lock’s first game back in senior grade after running out for reserve grade last week to recapture some much needed match fitness.

He’s looking forward to returning to the top grade this weekend.

“The break’s done me good in a way because I was carrying an ankle injury but it’s given me a chance to get over that,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to it, we should have a really strong team on the park this weekend.”

Pirates coach, Marc Minor, said although his team had an impressive victory against their Kempsey rivals in the first round of competition they would not be taking the game lightly.

“They are always a team that manage to stay in striking distance all the time,” he said.

“They just keep coming at you, that’s their style, they stay close to you and if you’re not on your game that’s when they win. They’re all-round good scrappers.”

Minor said his players were still hurting from a single point loss to Southern Cross University a fortnight ago and after enjoying a bye last week are keen to get back on the field.

“The whole club is upset about that loss,” he said. “It doesn’t matter what excesses there is, it was a sub-par performance. A lot of the guys are keen to get out there and play a lot better.”

The Pirates will be at home to the Cannonballs tomorrow at Stuart Park.

Action kicks off with reserve grade at 1.45pm followed by first grade at 3pm.
