Chaos reigned in this scene from Secret Bridesmaids Business! Pictured from left, Jodie Holwell, Anna Greene, Grant Johnson, Jan Park and Christine Bulger.ARARAT – Ararat Musical Comedy Society’s presentation of the play Secret Bridesmaids’ Business was a sellout in both Ararat and Amphitheatre.
Audiences who missed a ticket missed out on a treat, with the intimate setting of the Astor Cinema providing an up close and personal experience, prompting much laughter and all-in-good-fun ‘heckling’ of the cast.
The play followed bride Meg, played by Christine Bulger, as she gathers with her mum Colleen (Jan Park) and bridesmaids Lucy (Carina Clarke) and Angela (Jodie Holwell) for some girlie fun in a hotel the night before the wedding.
The night goes awry when Meg discovers her husband-to-be James (Grant Johnson) is having an affair and she throws Lucy out for revealing the devastating news. The wedding day dawns and descends even further into chaos when it is discovered that replacement bridesmaid Naomi (Anna Greene) was the object of James’ affections!
Director Pam Wright was thrilled with the response to the play.
“We’ve had nothing but positive comments about the venue and the play itself,” Ms Wright said.
“Everyone spoke about the intimacy of the venue, which was perfect for the play, and enjoyed the closeness to the action.
“People said the play was terrific and was funny from start to finish, with the monologues making the audience feel part of the whole experience.”
Some of the comments from audience members included: ‘Thoroughly enjoyed seeing a full length play delivering such a high standard of theatre’, ‘Wonderful, wonderful wonderful’.
“I have received good reports and huge compliments to the cast for an outstanding job,” Ms Wright said.
Ms Wright thanked Barry and Cheryl Byron for allowing Ararat Musical Comedy Society to stage the play in the Astor Cinema, her support crew and also thanked all sponsors.
“I would really like to make mention of the Ararat Musical Comedy Society for having the foresight and trust in me to produce a full length play in this new and unique venue,” she said.
