The Cowra Gem and Collectors Club Fair draws hunters and collectors from across the region.Penny licks, pie funnels and piano insulators; just some of the antique treasures that will be on display at the 45th Annual Collectors Show next weekend.
Organised by the Cowra Gem and Collectors Club, the Collector’s Fair will be held Saturday 18 and Sunday 19, May at the Cowra Showground Pavilion, Grenfell Road, Cowra.
Self titled ‘Unsung Show Secretary’s Assistant,’ Helen Amos said the popular event will see collectors travel from all over the country on a mission to purchase, swap and sell.
“We’ve got people coming from Brisbane, Victoria, quite a few from Sydney and even someone from Germany,” she said.
“People book the motels a year in advance and every year the motels are booked out.
“We’ll have about 60 or 70 stalls and there’ll be hundreds of people there.”
Mrs Amos said collectable glass bottles and Royal Doulton china have gone up in popularity over the years and will be displayed alongside a range of silverware, radios, tools and cameras.
“I think people are just realizing when we go we’ll only have plastic to hand down the generations so these things are becoming more valuable,” she said.
Although there will be “a bit of everything on display” Mrs Amos said some items may not hold as much value as others.
‘One year I saw a set of false teeth but I don’t think they’re real saleable items,” she laughed.
Gates will open from 10am- 5:30pm on Saturday 18 and 9am -2:30pm on Sunday 19, May. Admission is $5 per person with children under 12 accompanied by an adult permitted free entry.
A large portion of this years proceeds will go to local charity, Cowra Lions Club.
