The much-liked veteran racehorse owner-breeder George Small from Grenfell was at Mudgee TAB meeting on Sunday to see his promising four-year-old gelding Oscar Tosca contest the Winners Circle Wine Club Class 3 Handicap (1400 metres).
A winner at Cowra and Bathurst this campaign, the Danny Parsons-trained Oscar Tosca started the $4.00 favourite in the 13-horse field.
Cowra Jockey Adam Gain obtained a good position behind the leading pack on Oscar Tosca as the field settled down.
Producing a good sprint in the straight, Oscar Tosca was a convincing winner over Laugh Adam (Tony Cavallo, 11.00) and Elusion (Jeff Penza, 11.00).
Meanwhile at the Boorowa Picnic Races on Saturday, Feng Shui, part-owned by Doug Allen from Greenethorpe won the Class B Handicap (1300 metres).
Trained by Kevin White at Cowra, Feng Shui (Alan Barton, 2.80) led throughout to defeat I’m Fresh (Rebekka Prest, 2.60 fav) and Numey Boy (Ricky Blewitt, 12.00).
Feng Shui had also been an all-the-way winner for Doug Allen and partners at the recent Grenfell Picnics.
Over several years, Doug Allen has been a great contributor to the success of picnic racing through his leadership of NSW Picnic Race Association and the Grenfell club.
