HOCKEY

A TRIO of junior hockey players have made their clubs proud when they were announced as Dubbo representatives for the Western NSW Primary School Sports Association (PSSA).

Kate Tucker, Phoebe Bloink-Hollier and Lilli Campbell will compete in the Western PSSA Girls Carnival at Grafton next month and all three are very solid players.

The announcement was made recently in Orange and Tucker’s mother Katrina Arden said all three girls were “ecstatic” about their appointment in the elite team.

“They put the girls through a set of drills, they then played 45-minute halves where they selected the possibles and probables,” Arden said.

“After more 45-minute halves the players were announced. The girls were so happy to hear it.”

She said Blonk-Hollier and Campbell would play two back-to-back carnivals, in conjunction with the PSSA carnival at Grafton.

“Dubbo has a lot of talented hockey players, and I know there will be many more to come,” Arden said.

Tucker already plays B-grade hockey and is a full-back in Dubbo, Blonk-Hollier is a centre-half and Campbell is a goalkeeper and one of the best junior goalies in Dubbo, according to Arden.

The girls were very happy to receive the news of their involvement in the PSSA team, which Campbell had been involved in before.

“I did it last year and made it through to the next round,” Campbell said.

“I hope this year we play as a team and not for ourselves, like we did last year.”

Both Campbell and Bloink-Hollier will compete in the Western Conference, while Tucker will be playing in 13s and 15s girls representative hockey.

Bloink-Hollier last played in a Western Conference in 2011, where her team won the whole competition.

Tucker played hockey for four years in Bathurst before coming to Dubbo.

The NSW PSSA Girls Hockey will be held from June 18 to 21 at Grafton.
